abstract = "The use and occupation of large urban centers in a disorderly
manner have been accompanied by various disasters, causing damage
in several scales with the loss of human lives and property. This
study aims to identify areas with increased susceptibility to
landslides from the analysis of several conditions that favor
those events. The area selected for the development of this study
was the municipality of Angra dos Reis, State of Rio de Janeiro,
having as justification the feature of having been the scene of
major natural disasters such as the one in 2010 in Morro da
Carioca. This research identified the areas prone to landslides
through the analysis of data from different sources, such as
digital surface models (DSM), orbital satellite images and others,
using a statistical method of analysis - Analytic Hierarchy
Process (AHP). The methodology involved: (1) the determination of
the main conditioning factors that trigger the slip events; (2)
the preparation of maps representing such conditioning factors;
(3) the analysis of conditions by using the Analytic Hierarchy
Process (AHP); (4) assigning weights for each of such conditioning
factors according to their importance; (5) developing a map of
areas susceptible to landslides. The validation of the final map
was made by comparing the regions classified in this paper with
the events that occurred in the city. Most regions classified in
the range between high and very high were targets of landslide
events between the years 2002 and 2013, demonstrating that the
proposed methodology can contribute in a relevant way to land
management projects.",
